After Pedro: Chelsea now submit £50m proposal for "generational" forward

Chelsea have now submitted a £50m proposal for a “generational” forward, who could be in line to join along with Joao Pedro, according to reporter Simon Phillips.

Pedro set for medical ahead of Stamford Bridge move

The Blues have certainly been busy in the opening stages of the summer transfer window, with a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens believed to be edging closer to completion, and the Englishman is not the only forward in line to move to Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro is edging closer to a move to west London, with a deal worth over £50m being agreed on Sunday evening.

Phillips has since taken to X to praise BlueCo for the way in which they have gone about business this summer, saying: “I applaud Chelsea for the speed of the Joao Pedro deal, no messing about there. Also, this is the club backing Enzo Maresca by the way.

“He put new attackers as the priority, and the club are getting players to match his footballing vision. More will follow, far from done here.”

With bringing in new attackers of key importance to Maresca, Chelsea have now made an approach for another forward, having submitted a £50m verbal proposal over a deal for West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus, Phillips has revealed (via The Chelsea Chronicle).

Mohammed Kudus in action for West Ham.

The proposal, which is not classed as an official offer, was knocked back by West Ham, however, with the Blues’ London rivals seemingly holding out for a higher fee, having previously valued the forward at £85m.

Despite the rejection, the Blues remain interested in signing Kudus alongside Pedro and Gittens, indicating they could return to the negotiating table with an official offer.

"Generational" Kudus could flourish at Chelsea

The Ghanaian struggled to stand out in a poor West Ham side last season, but he has proven himself in the Premier League in the past, picking up eight goals and nine assists in 33 matches during the 2023-24 campaign.

Not only that, but the 24-year-old is regarded as a “generational” talent by journalist Gary Al-Smith, indicating he could be capable of kicking on at a top club, should the Hammers be willing to sanction a departure this summer.

Enzo Maresca won’t be signing him.

There may be some concerns the winger is not a necessary signing, given that fellow winger Gittens is already set to move to Stamford Bridge, but the Blues are in a healthy PSR situation, having effectively sold their women’s team to themselves.

As such, if Chelsea have cash to splash this summer, it could be worth bringing in Kudus, although the proposed £85m price tag is way too high, given that he is yet to prove himself at the very highest level.

Arsenal set to make "official announcement" that's as exciting as Gyokeres

A big week is on the cards for Arsenal. Andrea Berta has attacked the transfer market with intent and supporters are feeling positive energy heading into the new campaign.

The Gunners have already announced three new signings. Kepa Arrizabalaga has arrived to provide competition for David Raya, joining from Chelsea, while another Premier League talent in the shape of Christian Norgaard has arrived as Jorginho’s replacement.

The headline addition so far has been Martin Zubimendi. The Gunners have been courting the Spaniard for a while and have finally got their man, bringing him in for a £60m fee, officially confirming his signature last week.

But, there’s still much to do for Arsenal. Noni Madueke looks set to arrive after undergoing the final part of his medical on Monday.

It’s also expected Cristhian Mosquera will join from Valencia and Eberechi Eze is reportedly still on the club’s radar.

Still, the biggest deal of all will see a certain Viktor Gyokeres arrive in north London. It’s a move that’s set to make those in the Premier League envious.

Why Arsenal are signing Viktor Gyokeres

Goals, goals and more goals. We can wrap this segment up now, right?

For a long time now the missing piece of the puzzle at Arsenal has felt like a centre-forward. In 2024/25, no player reached double figures for goals in the Premier League. That was the first time that’s happened for the Gunners in over 100 years, dating back to the 1923/24 campaign.

Of course, Arsenal had to deal with injuries to the likes of Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka but their absence only illuminated the problems in Mikel Arteta’s frontline further.

As a result, the club seemingly had two options this summer. To sign RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko or Sporting’s Gyokeres.

Sporting CP's ViktorGyokerescelebrates scoring their third goal to complete his hat-trick

Well, after a deal for Sesko looked as though it was going to be too expensive, Berta and Co decided to push harder for Gyokeres’ signature, pulling the trigger on a move over the weekend.

According to David Ornstein, the Reds are set to sign the Swede having finally agreed a fee with the Portuguese club that will see him move for a guaranteed price of £55m plus an extra £8.6m in add-ons.

That looks could represent a bargain considering the numbers he’s been registering in recent years.

While 2024/25 was a colossal campaign for the 27-year-old, scoring 54 goals in 52 games, he’s not just a one-season wonder.

Gyokeres also scored 43 goals for Sporting in his debut campaign and thrived at Coventry City, bagging 22 in his final year with the Sky Blues.

Arsenal need goals and Gyokeres certainly does them. Still, there’s an announcement reportedly incoming that may generate just as much fanfare.

Arsenal's exciting announcement after Gyokeres

While very few things will top the arrival of a new centre-forward, the renewal of Ethan Nwaneri’s contract would certainly provide just as much excitement.

Indeed, the youngster’s future at the Emirates Stadium has been up in the air in recent weeks, with reports emerging last week that Chelsea were ready to pounce with a new deal for the teenager stalling.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Well, reports in recent days have suggested that Arsenal have overcome any impasse and Nwaneri is now set to put pen to paper on a new deal.

The BBC’s Sami Mokbel revealed on Sunday that Arsenal are ‘set to make’ Nwaneri a formal offer of a new contract, suggesting there is now a ‘will from all parties to reach an agreement’.

Football Transfers further reported that ‘an official announcement confirming his commitment to Arsenal is expected very soon.’

Why Arsenal needed to tie down Ethan Nwaneri

It’s safe to say that Nwaneri is a generational talent. Yes, we know that term gets thrown out more regularly than it should, but it’s the correct phrase to attribute to this young Arsenal star.

Officially the youngest player to ever feature in a Premier League game when handed his debut at the age of just 15, it’s been a slow road to regular action since then.

#1 Ethan Nwaneri

#3 Cesc Fabregas

#7 Ryan Smith

16 years, 11 months, 18 days

#8 Gedion Zelalem

16 years, 11 months, 29 days

#9 Armand Traore

17 years, 16 days

That’s understandable given his age, but in 2024/25, he became a key part of this Arsenal team, scoring nine goals in all competitions across 37 outings and being rightfully nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award alongside teammate Myles Lewis-Skelly.

He’s one of the best young talents in European football. Only two players 18 or younger, Assane Diao and Lamine Yamal (both 9), scored more than Nwaneri’s four in Europe’s top five leagues last term, rubberstamping his early credentials.

His record so far and indeed his performances, have attracted widespread acclaim.

Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue reckons the teen “can be better than Yamal” in the future, while Joe Cole has suggested that the way he dribbles in and around the penalty area is “like Messi”.

Further celebrated by scout Jacek Kulig as “one of Hale End & England’s biggest jewels”, there are very few young players in the country bursting with as much potential as this kid.

Gyokeres will no doubt attract most of the hype this week but if a deal for Nwaneri also gets announced, don’t underestimate the importance.

With Chelsea circling for Arsenal’s best young talent, getting him tied down as soon as possible will be one of the best bits of business the club secures all summer. It won’t be long before the 18-year-old is starting week in, week out. Arsenal fans be excited.

Their new Liel Abada: Celtic on the verge of signing "fearless" star

It’s set to be a busy summer transfer window at Celtic Park, as always seems to be the case.

Kieran Tierney has already secured his Celtic return, resulting in much excitement, but many more signings are set to follow.

Now, the Hoops are closing in on a “fearless” new winger reminiscent of a certain Liel Abada.

How Liel Abada is faring after leaving Celtic

Countless players have enjoyed longer Celtic careers, with many making many more appearances in green and white hoops, but Abada will always be remembered fondly by the supporters.

Just 20 years old at the time, Abada arrived from Maccabi Petah Tikva for a reported fee of £3.6m in the summer of 2021.

He netted the first goal of the Ange Postecoglou era in a Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland, scoring 29 times and registering 22 assists in 112 outings for the club, named PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year during his debut campaign.

A few of Abada’s goals are why he is so fondly remembered by fans, namely a stoppage-time winner against Dundee United, as well as goals during Old Firm demolition victories, adding the third in a 3-0 win in February 2022, before bagging a brace during a 4-0 hammering of Rangers later that year.

Celtic winger Liel Abada.

However, after being sidelined with a long-term injury and due to growing tension following the escalation of the Israel-Palestine conflict, Abada was sold to MLS side Charlotte FC for a reported fee of £10m in March last year, representing a tidy profit.

Since then, he’s been pretty impressive in America, scoring 13 goals in 46 games, also registering three assists.

Now, Celtic could be set to land their next goal-scoring winger.

Celtic set to sign a new wide-attacker

As has been widely reported, including by reports in Belgium, Celtic are now set to sign Benjamin Nygren from Nordsjælland for a reported £2m fee.

Nygren was also linked with Anderlecht but has allegedly chosen to head to Scotland in favour of heading elsewhere in Europe. As such, he is ‘expected to complete his move to the Premiership’.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen earlier this month, Nygren admitted “it’s clear that there is a lot of interest. I have done extremely well this whole season… I will leave”.

The 23-year-old winger made his senior debut for hometown club IFK Göteborg, before spells with Genk and Heerenveen, joining current side Nordsjælland in January 2022, scoring an impressive 35 goals in 107 appearances for the Tigers.

His form at club level saw him earn a senior international debut earlier this year, featuring in all four of Sweden’s fixtures in 2025 to date, scoring against both Northern Ireland in Stockholm and Hungary at the Puskás Aréna just last week.

So, let’s assess why he’s so similar to Abada.

As the table outlines, like the Israeli, Nygren is very much a goal-scoring wide-attacker, hence why he had more shots on target than anyone else in this season’s Superligaen, also ranked in the top three for goals, shots and big chances missed.

International teammate Alexander Isak described Nygren as “fearless” and full of “confidence”, adding that he thoroughly enjoyed playing alongside a winger who is able to “provide good crosses”.

Sakhu Mpofu of Total Football Analysis outlines how he is best as a right-winger who likes to ‘invert into the centre’, while he is also described as “versatile” and ‘one of the most underrated” players in Denmark’s top-flight.

Thus, it is clear that Celtic are set to secure the services of a high-quality wide-attacker, with similar natural goal-scoring instincts to one of the previous incumbents of the right-wing position, Abada.

Racha interno no grupo

A limpeza levou tempo, esfriou a torcida e, mais ainda, o time. Resultado, nova derrota, 2 a 0, e a eliminação.

'She was convinced she was going to die' – Ex-Inter boss helps save two teenage girls from drowning but insists he's 'not a hero'

Andrea Stramaccioni, former Inter manager, has been praised for saving two teenage girls from drowning, but he humbly rejects the 'hero' label.

  • Ex-Inter boss Stramaccioni rescued two girls
  • Acted instinctively after spotting the danger
  • Labels the act as an "instinct to help"

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

While on holiday with his family on a beach in Puglia, former Inter manager Stramaccioni was involved in a dramatic rescue. He noticed two young girls, aged 17 and 19, in distress in the water, who were struggling against strong waves. Reacting to the lifeguard's urgent whistles, Stramaccioni sprinted and plunged into the sea to assist, understanding that the lifeguard would be unable to save both girls alone. His quick and decisive actions ultimately led to the safe rescue of the two teenagers.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The girls were out in deep water and one was in a state of shock, causing Stramaccioni to feel genuine fear for both their lives and his own at one point. The former manager, however, believes his actions were not extraordinary, but rather a natural response. "I'm not a hero or a freak; in fact, at one point I had a tough time of it myself," he recounted, downplaying his immense courage.

  • WHAT STRAMACCIONI SAID

Recounting the scene's the ex-Udinese manager said: "I was under the umbrella with my wife and children. At a certain point, in the distance, people started crowding along the shore. One of the lifeguards was in the water, whistling to attract attention. There were two girls waving their arms and screaming, so I got up and quickly headed for the water. I immediately sensed the danger. The lifeguard would never have made it alone. The lifeguard entered the water without anything, neither life jackets nor ropes, like me. He told me to head towards the first girl, the older one, while he would focus on the other. As soon as I saw her, she told me she was scared. The water was deep, the waves were strong, I reiterated to her to stay calm, to stay on her back, and that in five minutes it would all be over. In the end, that's what happened."

Stramaccioni continued: "As soon as we reached a comfort zone near the shore, I turned around to check on the lifeguard and the other girl. She was in shock. The lifeguard couldn't help her, so I immediately turned back. The younger girl's situation was desperate: she kept disappearing, going down, and then coming back up, and above all, she had already drunk a lot. Meanwhile, the rescue boat had picked up the lifeguard and was trying to reach us, but we were too close to the rocks. They started throwing ropes at us from the rocks, but we couldn't reach them. I started to get scared, especially because the girl was dragging me into the water. She was convinced she was going to die. I'm not a hero or a freak; in fact, at one point I had a tough time of it myself, but as someone with the physical and mental characteristics needed for a similar situation, I felt compelled to intervene. My son asked me, 'Dad, what if I died?' I did it out of a sense of 'protection,' as if my wife or one of them had been in the water."

    WHAT NEXT FOR STRAMACCIONI?

Stramaccioni's brave actions earned him recognition from the Coast Guard, who presented him with a symbolic shirt. The Italian's selfless act shines more light on his personality and the human compassion within him, adding a new dimension to his public image while he reportedly awaits his next management role.

Romano: Man City now prioritising summer move to sign "excellent" defender

After Pep Guardiola revealed the news that Kyle Walker will not be at the Club World Cup as he prepares to leave the club this summer, Manchester City have reportedly made one particular target their no.1 priority.

Kyle Walker set to leave Man City

Following a loan spell at Milan, Walker is set to leave Manchester City on a permanent basis this summer. The veteran defender looks set to bow out as one of the best defenders to play for the Citizens and will forever have his part cemented in their history books. After eight successful years, however, he’s set to bring his Manchester City career to an end.

Guardiola confirmed the news that the defender will not be at the Club World Cup, with Fabrizio Romano then revealing that he is on course to depart Manchester City in the coming months.

Man City now eyeing shock chance to sign £84 million Arsenal contract rebel

This would certainly steal headlines…

ByTom Cunningham May 23, 2025

Walker’s exit should come as little shock. For all of his impressive work in Manchester, the England international was beginning to fall away from his best form before his loan spell away at AC Milan. Often at the centre of moments to forget for Guardiola’s side, a departure always seemed inevitable.

By the time his exit is confirmed, however, fans around The Etihad won’t remember Walker for this season’s defensive blunders. Instead, they will remember a right-back who became a mainstay in one of, if not the most successful side in Premier League history.

Replacing such a player should be among City’s priorities this summer in a task that certainly won’t be easy. Without Walker, Guardiola has been forced to turn towards some surprising options at right-back, including the likes of Matheus Nunes and the impressive Nico O’Reilly.

If the Spaniard wants to take his side back to Premier League glory after a season away, he will know more than anyone how important it is that City welcome a right-back this summer.

Man City prioritising Livramento move

According to Romano, Manchester City are now prioritising a move to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle United this summer and have made the right-back their No 1 target.

The former Chelsea youngster has impressed at St James’ Park ever since arriving, but nailed his place down in Eddie Howe’s side ahead of Kieran Trippier once and for all this season. Now, he could be on his way to The Etihad if City get their way.

At 22 years old, Livarmento’s best years are yet to come and may well come under Guardiola as has been the case for several stars over the years. As Walker prepares to leave, the Newcastle man, who Howe described as “excellent” in April, should be seen as the perfect heir to his Manchester City throne.

Clearing £75,000 a week from their wage bill whilst welcoming a player who could spearhead a new era at The Etihad would, in many ways, represent an ideal way for Manchester City to commence their summer spending.

Better signing than Ings: Wrexham keen on signing "wrecking ball" striker

Birmingham City stole most of the headlines in League One last season by sealing a title success on a gigantic 111 points, but Wrexham also gained plenty of airtime themselves when clinching yet another promotion.

This was the Red Dragons’ third promotion success in a row, unbelievably, with Phil Parkinson the manager who has amazingly steered the Welsh giants back into the spotlight away from non-league obscurity, to now being one division below the Premier League.

Wrexham will know that their next step up to the Championship will be their most difficult jump to navigate so far, with plenty of new signings ready to enter the building to ensure the next step-up isn’t so difficult, which includes this exciting striker target potentially joining Parkinson’s ranks.

Wrexham now interested in former PL ace

As per an exclusive report from football journalist Graeme Bailey, Wrexham are now in the race to land Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt this summer.

Unfortunately, they aren’t just a lone suitor having a peek at the two-time Premier League goalscorer, with Chris Davies’ Birmingham also keen on landing a loan deal for the explosive centre-forward, as Leeds look to get rid temporarily after sealing their own dramatic promotion.

Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt.

Whilst the 23-year-old has found himself stuck on the periphery at Elland Road as of late, he still has plenty of plus points next to his name that will intrigue Parkinson and Co.

He could even be viewed as a better signing for Wrexham to make than the newly promoted side going after an injury-prone Danny Ings, with the soon-to-be free agent forward more known now for his lengthy absences away from the first-team, than his clinical finishing ability.

Why Gelhardt would be a better signing than Ings

Indeed, the table above makes for some pretty grim reading on the ex-Liverpool striker’s end, with Ings only managing five goals for West Ham over his last three unmemorable seasons.

Whereas, in Gelhardt’s defence – despite tumbling down the pecking order in West Yorkshire as of late – he has still proven he can cut it in the Championship when handed a chance to impress out on loan at Hull City last season.

This spectacular effort back in January would get the ball rolling for Gelhardt in his fresh location, with the ex-Hull number 30 going on to bag another four strikes in league action, away from just this wild shot looping over Paul Nardi’s head.

This will instantly put Wrexham at ease about whether the 23-year-old is well-suited to the demands of the Championship after barren patches of form at Leeds. On the contrary, Ings last played at the demanding level all the way back in 2014, with a concern brewing that he just doesn’t have the legs required to kick back into gear in the EFL.

To Wrexham’s relief, Gelhardt showed he has plenty left in his tank at Hull last season, with a bite present in his game too when winning 5.2 duels on average per Championship clash, away from also creating five big chances on top of his goal tally of five.

The newly promoted side have also been there and done that when it comes to veterans leading the line, as seen in Steven Fletcher being on their books last campaign, with the loan capture of the 23-year-old “wrecking ball” – as he was once labelled by Jamie Redknapp for his aggressive approach – signalling a newer approach centred on the future.

While Ings’ name might be more instantly recognisable, his best years seem to be behind him now.

When it comes to Gelhardt, however, plenty more could still be in the offing.

Howe thinks he's perfect: Newcastle make bid for "incredible" £21m maestro

Newcastle United have now submitted a significant bid for an “incredible” player, with Eddie Howe of the belief he would be a perfect fit in his midfield, according to a report.

Newcastle pushing for the Champions League

Regardless of whether Newcastle secure Champions League football, the 2024-25 season will always be remembered fondly by fans, having finally ended their 70-year wait to win a major honour, but they still remain in a strong position to seal a top-five finish.

The Magpies are sitting pretty in fourth place, two points clear of Nottingham Forest with just three Premier League games left to play, although their remaining fixtures are on the more difficult side, with matches against two direct rivals now on the horizon.

It could prove to be a difficult task, but should Howe’s side qualify for Europe’s elite competition, they should be able to attract some top players in the summer, with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah and Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo believed to be of interest.

According to a report from Spain, Newcastle are also interested in a new midfielder, having submitted a €25m (£21m) bid for Girona maestro Yangel Herrera, who they are now determined to win the race for.

Atletico Madrid and top-five rivals Nottingham Forest are also interested in signing Herrera this summer, but the Magpies have now taken a firm step towards securing his signature, having put a strong offer on the table.

Howe believes the Venezuelan would fit perfectly into his side, and the manager is looking to introduce some additional quality into an already impressive midfield, with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali attracting interest due to their performances this season.

Herrera could be "incredible" signing for Newcastle

While Howe is not short on top-quality midfield options, there are clear signs the 27-year-old is a well-rounded midfielder, who could play an important role for the Magpies in a potential Champions League campaign next season.

The central midfielder has caught the eye in front of goal for Girona this term, registering four goals and three assists in La Liga, including a well-taken headed effort against Celta Vigo back in September.

Not only that, but the former New York City FC man impressed with his tackling ability in the early stages of his career, while also catching the eye due to his pass-success rate in the final third during the 2023-24 campaign.

Lauded as an “incredible player” by journalist Zach Lowy, there are plenty of signs that Herrera could be a success at a major European club, so it is a promising development that Newcastle have now made a concrete approach.

Obi Mikel could not hold back his emotions after Nicolas Jackson's 68th-minute red card allowed Flamengo to come back from behind and beat Chelsea 3-1 in a Club World Cup group game on Friday. Pedro Neto's 13th-minute strike had put the Blues in front, but Flamengo equalised just past the hour mark before taking the lead in the 65th minute. Three minutes later, Jackson was sent off for a rough challenge on Ayrton Lucas and a 10-man Blues then conceded a third goal and dropped crucial three points.

  • WHAT OBI MIKEL SAID

Working as a pundit for , the ex-Blues midfielder lambasted Jackson for his irresponsible behaviour as he said: "(It was) Unbelievable. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. I don't know what was going through his head. You come into the game, you are 2-1 down at that point. Your team needs you. And he does that. He did it in a league game at Newcastle. Again, a very important game which we needed to win to qualify for the Champions League. He did that, he got a red card. And now he's done this. You can't keep making mistakes."

He added, "I don't care what his frustration is. It's a football club. It's a massive football club and it's about competition. If you're p***ed off that Delap's coming to the football club and he's going to be the competition with you… you have to embrace it if you are a big player. Because the only way you are going to win trophies is if you are compete against each other."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Somers then had to apologise for Obi Mikel's foul language on camera as she said: "Lots of emotion in the studio, so apologies for any language used there."

After the match, Jackson took to social media to issue an apology to the fans and his team-mates, as he said: "I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation. I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way. No excuses. I take full responsibility. I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry."
