Rangers In Advanced Talks With £35,000/Wk Man Utd Star

Rangers are advancing in negotiations to sign on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland on a free transfer.

What's the transfer latest on Jack Butland to Rangers?

42-year-old manager Michael Beale is in the market for a new goalkeeper and has been linked with several names. Ivan Pandur was a serious option but it appears attention has switched to United's Jack Butland and a move to sign him is taking shape.

In late May, the Daily Mail reported that the goalkeeper was edging nearer to a move to the Scottish Premiership. He joined United on loan in January but will leave the club this summer without making an appearance.

Initially, Butland's salary demands "rocked" the potential for a move to Rangers but "a compromise" has since been reached over his personal demands. His £35,000/week terms with Crystal Palace are set to expire later this month and they will not recoup a fee when he leaves.

The Crystal Palace goalkeeper will leave this summer and Rangers look set to secure his services.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Rangers are in advanced talks to sign Butland, explaining on Twitter that the "deal is getting closer." Meanwhile, United will sign a new back-up goalkeeper to replace the former Stoke City star.

Why does Michael Beale need a new goalkeeper?

With 41-year-old Allan McGregor leaving the club after an emotional goodbye to the fans. It makes the end of his second spell with the fans after spending another five years at the Ibrox since joining in 2018, a move he described as a "no-brainer".

In total, the shot-stopper spent a lengthy period of time with Rangers, winning numerous titles including the Europa League win last season.

Looking ahead to next season, Michael Beale now needs to bring in a replacement and 30-year-old Jack Butland is now seemingly closing in on a move to Scotland.

Despite not playing any football during the 2022/23 season, training with Manchester United for a full year against the likes of Marcus Rashford may have benefited him.

Described by Guardian journalist Ed Aarons as "brilliant", Butland is in his prime years as a goalkeeper and could play a key role in Beale's squad next season.

Rangers will have to still qualify for the Champions League next season and after spending the business end of the season during United's push for the Premier League top four, Butland may still be able to take part in the competition himself.

TN, Mumbai fume over Ranji fixtures rescheduling

MCA and TNCA believe the rescheduling of two Group A fixtures to after the final round of matches would be unfair on the other teams, and have expressed their displeasure to the BCCI

Arun Venugopal27-Nov-2016Mumbai Cricket Association and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association have opposed BCCI’s decision to reschedule two postponed Delhi fixtures (due to pollution and smog) to after the completion of the ninth and final round of matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. The Group A clash between Gujarat and Bengal and the Group C fixture between Hyderabad and Tripura will now be played four days after the completion of the final round, from December 15 to 18, in Visakhapatnam and Kolkata respectively. The MCA has already lodged an official protest against the rescheduling of the Group A clash, and the TNCA is expected to follow suit on Monday. Mumbai are currently group toppers with 26 points, while Gujarat, with 21 points, are two points behind second-placed Tamil Nadu. While Tamil Nadu and Mumbai only have one and two games respectively, Gujarat have three by virtue of the rescheduling. According to , MCA joint-secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar had stated in his letter to the BCCI the rescheduling was unfair to the other teams.”The rescheduling of the said match after the completion of all matches gives unfair advantage to the participating teams with respect to their qualification the knockout phase,” Khanvilkar wrote. “This would be unfair for the rest of the teams who would have finished all the matches by then.”TNCA secretary Kasi Viswanathan said the matches in question shouldn’t be rescheduled, and that the points should be shared retrospectively. “In a league stage you cannot do this; it will be a disadvantage to the other teams. It is an act of God, and you should have only shared points,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “Last year we lost almost four days due to rain against Gujarat; so many matches have been affected by fog, nothing was done then.”We are saying the matches should not be rescheduled and that points should be shared like in any match that is washed out. We have orally conveyed [our displeasure] to the BCCI. We will have a meeting with our president and office bearers, and then we will file an official protest tomorrow mostly.”Viswanathan said they should have waited till the fourth day before calling the games off in Delhi. “After all, only two days of play had elapsed; they could have still completed the game on the third and the fourth day,” he said. “It has happened in so many games in the past; it is not something new.”He also contended the technical committee wasn’t empowered to reschedule the games. “The BCCI press release says that the two matches were called off by the technical committee,” he said. “I would like to point out that the technical committee has no jurisdiction over it. Only the senior tournament committee has the powers to decide this.”In Group C, the top-three teams are separated by only three points. While table-topper Andhra and third-placed Haryana have two more matches remaining, Hyderabad, who trail Andhra by only two points, have an extra game against Tripura, who are in the bottom half. Andhra coach Sanath Kumar admitted Hyderabad would have the advantage of knowing what they need to do in the last match, but said there was no point worrying about it.”All we have to do is our two games we have to focus and have to do our best. If we win one of the games and take the first-innings lead in the other we are anyway through,” he said. “These things we can’t do anything about. It is not intentionally done or something like that. Definitely it is an advantage, but you can’t avoid it; you can’t do anything else.”The BCCI had also pushed back the knockout matches to accommodate the two games. The quarter-finals, initially scheduled to begin on December 17, will now be held from December 24 to 28. The semi-finals were moved from December 27 to January 3, while the final, originally set to be played from January 7, will now take place from January 12 to 16.

Revised USACA constitution to be presented before ICC board

The ICC announced on Monday that a revised constitution for USA Cricket Association will be put up for consideration at the next ICC board meeting later this month

Peter Della Penna03-Oct-2016The ICC announced on Monday that a revised constitution for USA Cricket Association will be put up for consideration at the next ICC board meeting later this month. Ratifying a revised constitution is one of the key terms and conditions for the USACA to be reinstated as an Associate member of the ICC following their suspension in 2015.The announcement came after an ICC delegation including chief executive David Richardson and chairman Shashank Manohar spent the weekend in New York having meetings with stakeholders, including members of four advisory groups appointed to help carry out the ICC’s strategic framework outline. According to the ICC release, members of the advisory group formulated the revised constitution over the last several months before presenting it to the ICC delegation this weekend. The advisory groups comprises people from across the USA cricket community, including USACA board members and administrators.”We have heard from representatives across the USA cricketing community and there is a clear desire from them to unify under a single umbrella,” Richardson said. “The ICC is here to facilitate that process of building a strong foundation on which the sport can develop. Should the ICC Board consider the new constitution appropriate for the US market then we would look to USACA to adopt that as part of the fulfilment of their reinstatement conditions before full implementation of the constitution in 2017.”USACA board representatives, including president Gladstone Dainty, also met separately with the ICC delegation over the weekend. It is unclear how much input, if any, the Dainty-led board – separate from the USACA administrators who have been appointed to the ICC advisory groups – had in the revised constitution that will be presented to the ICC board. The ICC had given USACA until December 15 to comply with meeting all conditions for reinstatement, including ratifying a new constitution. Failure to meet the deadline may result in a resolution to be put to the ICC board before the end of the year for the expulsion of USACA, which would be put forward at the ICC annual conference in June 2017.

Man Utd player ratings vs Brighton: Antony's miss haunts toothless Red Devils as Seagulls get revenge for semi-final

Brighton left it very late to sink the Red Devils but fully deserved their win against Erik ten Hag's lacklustre side

Brighton avenged their recent shootout defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final by scoring the latest of penalties to secure a thoroughly deserved 1-0 win over the Red Devils.

A VAR review spotted a handball by Luke Shaw after the five minutes of added time had been played, in a reversal of what happened in this fixture in the 2020-21 campaign, when Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty after the final whistle had initially been blown.

Alexis Mac Allister dispatched his 98th minute spot-kick ruthlessly to boost Brighton's hopes of qualifying for Europe and simultaneously harm United's hopes of securing a top-four spot early.

Although United were unfortunate to lose so late in the game, this was yet another poor away showing by Erik ten Hag's side, who could have taken an early lead but were left to rue Antony missing a real sitter after being played clean through by Bruno Fernandes.

GOAL rates Man Utd's players from the Amex Stadium…

David de Gea (7/10):

Took an early whack on the head from Mitoma's shot but stayed focused and made a fine save late on to keep out Alexis Mac Allister's low drive, also parrying a last-gasp shot from Caicedo. Could do little about Mac Allister's emphatic penalty.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (8/10):

Dealt expertly with Kaoru Mitoma, keeping tight on him without committing himself and getting beaten. United's man of the match.

Victor Lindelof (5/10):

Shaky in possession, gifting a clear chance to Mitoma. Improved as the game went on.

Luke Shaw (4/10):

Was not very commanding and made a big mistake by leaving his hand in the air to give away the penalty.

Diogo Dalot (6/10):

Had very little joy in attack but was sound defensively.

Fred (5/10):

Brought energy to the midfield but was unable to prise open Brighton and United missed the creative passing of Christian Eriksen, who dropped to the bench.

Casemiro (7/10):

A strong stabilising force although the Brazilian picked up a first-half booking for a tactical foul and then lived on the edge, still diving into tackles and risking getting a second yellow card.

Bruno Fernandes (6/10):

Created the early chance for Antony but did not get much freedom in attack, having to work hard defensively instead.

Antony (4/10):

Wasteful and ineffective. Missed the target with a great early chance and grew increasingly frustrated with his inability to get beyond Brighton's defence. Booked for kicking out at Mac Allister.

Anthony Martial (5/10):

Made very few runs behind defence and struggled to link the play or hold the ball up.

Marcus Rashford (6/10):

The only United attacker who looked a threat. Got in down the left wing a few times but his only real shooting chance was saved by the leg of Jason Steele. Took a whack on the ankle from Caicedo.

Jadon Sancho (5/10):

Unable to help United put Brighton under any real pressure.

Marcel Sabitzer (5/10):

Barely got involved in the game when he came on.

Wout Weghorst (N/A):

Only introduced for the final six minutes.

Erik ten Hag (4/10):

Made the wrong call in dropping Eriksen for Fred, meaning United struggled to keep the ball for long periods and allowed Brighton to take the initiative. His changes came too late and offered very little.

India offspinner R Ashwin has claimed the top ICC awards for 2015-16, having been named the ICC Cricketer of the Year and the Test Cricketer of the Year. Ashwin is the third Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Cricketer of the Year.Ashwin, currently the top-ranked Test bowler, had picked up 48 wickets and scored 336 runs in eight Tests during the ICC’s voting period from September 2015 to 2016, in addition to 27 wickets in 19 T20Is. In 2016 alone, he picked up 72 wickets in 12 Tests and became the second-fastest bowler to 200 wickets during the Kanpur match against New Zealand.Ashwin said he was overwhelmed by the recognition. “It’s a bit overwhelming and it is yet to sink in completely. At the same time I was expecting to land one but to end up with two awards was extremely special,” he said. “To be bracketed alongside Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar is indeed a matter of great pride.”I want to dedicate this award to my family who have been a pillar of strength. And not to forget all my teammates and coach Anil Kumble who push me to give my best with their support and guidance.”The offspinner rated his 7 for 83 in the Antigua Test against West Indies as the performance he enjoyed the most. That haul helped India to an innings-and-92-run win, and he finished the series as the leading wicket-taker with 17 dismissals. Another performance Ashwin rated highly was his knock of 118 in the first innings in St Lucia, which helped rescue India from 126 for 5 to 353. They went on to win the match by 237 runs. It was also Ashwin’s fourth Test hundred.South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was named ODI Player of the Year. De Kock has been South Africa’s leading run-getter in ODIs since September last year, and tallied 793 runs in 16 ODIs during the voting period. Overall, since September 2015, he has scored 1175 runs in 22 matches in the format, with five centuries and three fifties, ahead of senior batsmen like Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla. One of de Kock’s most prolific phases came between October 2015 and February 2016, when he scored four centuries in six innings during the tour of India and the home series against England. He enjoyed the same form in the longest format, with five successive fifty-plus scores between August and November 2016. De Kock is the second South Africa player after AB de Villiers to win the award.West Indies allrounder Carlos Brathwaite’s match-defining 34 not out off 10 balls in the World T20 final against England earlier this year was named the T20 Performance of the Year. The allrounder, who took over as the T20 captain in August, sealed a second World T20 title for West Indies by slamming four successive sixes to end a chase of 156 in Kolkata.Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman was named Emerging Cricketer of the Year, having notched up impressive performances since his international debut in April 2015. The first Bangladesh cricketer to win an annual ICC award, Mustafizur picked up eight ODI wickets and 19 T20I wickets in the voting period.Afghanistan’s flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad won the Associate and Affiliate Cricketer of the Year. He was the leading run-getter in the category, with 699 runs in 16 ODIs, 533 runs in 17 T20Is and 301 runs in the Intercontinental Cup matches.Earlier, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates had bagged the Women’s ODI and T20I Player-of-the-Year awards, while Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq was given the Spirit of Cricket award. A century from Siddhesh Lad and his fifth-wicket stand of 105 with Aditya Tare rescued Mumbai after Chama Milind had rocked them with three early wickets. Having chosen to bat first at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Mumbai were 34 for 4, with both Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav back in the dressing room, when Lad joined Tare. The pair batted for the next 40.3 overs, before Tare, Mumbai’s wicketkeeper-captain, fell for 73 (148b, 14×4) to the medium-pacer Mohammed Siraj, who picked up his second wicket. That would be Hyderabad’s last wicket of the day, as Lad batted through to go to stumps on 101 (196b, 15×4, 1×6), having added an unbroken 111 with Abhishek Nayar (46*, 79b, 7×4) for the sixth wicket.

The two added an unbroken 126 for the seventh wicket in 48 overs as Gujarat went to stumps 197 for 6, with Gandhi on 62 (161b, 6×4) and Kalaria on 59 (136b, 6×4, 1×6).Lunch was taken 47 minutes early at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, with Gujarat 39 for 2, due to concerns over the pitch that reportedly arose when Parthiv Patel was struck on the arm by an awkwardly rising ball. Shahbaz Nadeem’s 12th first-class five-wicket haul ensured Haryana did not extend the advantage of winning the toss on a day of unconverted starts at the Moti Baug Stadium. In 30 overs of left-arm spin, Nadeem took 5 for 75 as Haryana went to stumps 251 for 7, with all their batsmen getting into double figures but none of them managing a half-century.Chaitanya Bishnoi (41) and Rajat Paliwal (42) were the day’s highest scorers, the two of them adding 83 for the fourth wicket to take Haryana to 154 for 3, before Nadeem dismissed both off successive overs. Haryana slipped further, to 195 for 7, before Sanjay Pahal (38*) and Harshal Patel (22*) saw them through to stumps with an unbroken stand of 56 for the eighth wicket.

Not good enough, Vlatko! USWNT winners and losers as Andonovski's decisions doom defending World Cup champions in frustrating Netherlands draw

The U.S. boss didn't set his team up to succeed and then left them out to dry in a game that was dying for a change

Heading into the World Cup, the United States women's national team had more question marks than ever before. How would they cope with an obvious lack of depth at center-back? Would they ever find an answer at the No.6 position? Could the team's young stars step up to the moment in their first real opportunity on a stage this big?

As it turns out, though, their draw with the Netherlands showed that the USWNT's biggest question mark may just be their coach. Despite escaping with a point, this 1-1 draw showed that, if the USWNT are to win this World Cup, they're more likely to do it in spite of Vlatko Andonovski, rather than because of him.

This is a long tournament, of course, and Andonovski, like his players, will learn from this. Still, this is a game that will feel both like a lucky result and a missed opportunity for a number of reasons.

Few players will leave this one feeling good, especially given how the game played out, but Andonovski, in particular, will now know that he'll have to do something different if the U.S. are to really make a run this summer.

GOAL has you covered with the winners and losers from the USWNT's draw with the Netherlands…

Please enable Javascript to view this contentGettyLOSER: Vlatko Andonovski

This was a mess from a coaching perspective. Where do we even begin? It makes sense to start with the line up, in theory. Andonovski went with an unchanged XI, rolling out the same starters that cruised past Vietnam last game. Risky, but understandable, despite the fact that there were some obvious rotations to be made if he wanted to.

We can excuse the optimism, even if it was shut down very quickly. The USWNT looked like a team totally unprepared to face the Netherlands' three-at-the-back system. Whenever the Dutch center-backs stepped up, the U.S. looked clueless, allowing passes to break all of the lines and totally bypass the midfield.

That, we can also excuse. A coach won't always get the XI right, and Andonovski definitely didn't, but you do get the benefit of substitutions, right? Well, Andonovski only made one. In a World Cup game. With the deepest team in the world.

His one sub, Rose Lavelle, was spot on, but the decision to not make a single other change is baffling, to say the least. Early in the second half, this game was dying for a player to help the U.S. establish control. Later, it was dying for a player with the ability to steal a winner. Instead, Andonovski let several gassed players run around aimlessly in the name of continuity. No Lynn Williams, no Alyssa Thompson, no Megan Rapinoe… nothing.

It's something you simply can't do at this level. Rest is at a premium, and the USWNT has an advantage over just about every team when it comes to depth. Why, then, would Andonovski not roll the dice when the U.S. was so obviously not getting what they wanted out of the game?

The USWNT survived it this time, only just. It wasn't due to some change in tactics or game-changing coaching decision. No, it was due to the fact that Lindsey Horan got angry and dunked on the Netherlands out of revenge. It was frustration, not coaching, that got the U.S. out of this mess.

For years, Andonovski has, perhaps unfairly, been criticized for many of this team's shortcomings. The USWNT has never quite been a dominant force under his leadership, and that isn't totally his fault. Injuries have played a part, for sure, as have some irregularities in the player pool. You can't control everything.

What you can control is something as simple as substitutions. Andonovski didn't. It's a mistake that went relatively unpunished, thankfully for the USWNT, who simply can't get away with this type of coaching against the best teams in the world

AdvertisementGettyWINNER: Lindsey Horan

As it turns out, Horan called her shot. "You get trash talk every single day from Dan van de Donk," she told GOAL just before the World Cup, "and once we play them, you'll see it. She'll be coming for my ankles like every single play so watch out for that. That will be fun!" Prophetic, huh?

Horan was right all along, unfortunately for Van de Donk, who woke up her Lyon team-mate in a big way. After a collision between the two and some obvious frustration from Horan, the USWNT captain stepped up with a huge header just moments later, turning her anger into a game-tying goal.

It was the type of moment you'd expect from a captain. She had her difficulties in the first half, for sure, but as the game wore on and frustration mounted, Horan turned it into the moment this team needed. Job well done for the USWNT captain. Who knows what she'll predict next?

Getty ImagesLOSER: Trinity Rodman

Early on, Trinity Rodman was the USWNT's only bright spot. Her pace made her dangerous and she nearly got a goal seconds after the USWNT conceded. There was a pretty significant amount of time that it looked like the goal was most likely to come from something Rodman did.

But you just have to look at the numbers to see that this wasn't the game the USWNT needed from Rodman. The young winger attempted 23 passes; she completed just 10 of them. That's 43 percent. She was also dispossessed six different times. So many attacks came to an end once the ball got to Rodman's feet. You simply can't give up the ball that often at this level.

Now, Andonovski should have seen that and taken her off. She obviously faded as the game went on and, generally, a coach would have thrown on fresh legs for some fresh ideas in the attack. Instead, Rodman was left out to dry a bit.

The bright spots should ensure her confidence doesn't dip too much. Rodman is a legitimate weapon, one that kept the Netherlands on the back foot right up until they scored. She'll have better games than this, for sure, and she'll learn from what was a very, very big lesson on the biggest stage.

GettyWINNER: Rose Lavelle

We all knew that Lavelle was important to this team, but this first half proved just how vital she is. The Netherlands cut through the USWNT midfield like Swiss cheese throughout the opening 45 minutes, completely dominating the American midfield three with ease. That is until Lavelle arrived to save the day.

The balance totally shifted when the midfielder was tossed into the game as she replaced Savannah DeMelo, who may just have been the team's best midfielder in the opening half. Lavelle immediately got herself stuck in in what was a physical game, helping provide some fight back against the tide.

Her assist on Horan's goal, meanwhile, was fantastic, helping the U.S. salvage a point. Andonovski only made one sub on the day, and he did get that one right as Lavelle was the player to change this game.

The question is what comes next. Is she healthy enough to finally go 90 against Portugal? The U.S. better hope so. They can't win this thing without her.

Tottenham: Ange Dealt Major Harry Kane Worry At Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane has given the "OK" for Real Madrid to attempt his signing this summer, according to reports out of Spain.

Who could leave Spurs this summer?

A lot has been made of which players new manager Ange Postecoglou could sign for Spurs, especially since a rebuild is arguably required after an underwhelming 2022/2023 Premier League campaign.

The north Londoners failed to qualify for Europe and won't benefit from all the riches that go with it, while Tottenham also went another campaign trophyless.

Spurs haven't clinched silverware since 2008, when they beat Chelsea in the League Cup final, and Postecoglou has an almighty job on his hands to get them contending again.

There is currently a plethora of deadwood in the squad, with The Telegraph recently revealing that a huge player clear out is planned.

Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Clement Lenglet, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have all been mentioned as possible exit nominees – while Spurs are also expected to try and sell Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks.

Kane, who is wanted by Real Madrid, has also been linked with a move away but chairman Daniel Levy is tipped to dig his heels in.

harry-kane-tottenham-hotspur

Now, as per a report by Spanish outlet Marca, there has been an update on the 29-year-old's future and it could be a worry for Postecoglou. Indeed, Kane himself apparently "gives the OK" to Madrid and their attempts to sign him this summer.

The Galacticos' transfer "operation" for Kane could cost them around £60m, according to Marca, and they claim many different factors play into Ancelotti's favour – such as his dwindling contract, Levy's refusal to let him join Man City or Man United and Spurs' European absence next season.

Who is Harry Kane?

Despite Kane entering the final 12 months of his contract, we believe it will cost far, far more than £60m to convince Spurs to sell.

The Three Lions star, called a "genius" by ex-Premier League player Matt Holland, finished 22/23 as Tottenham's standout player by some distance – scoring a seismic 30 goals in 38 league games for the Lilywhites.

You can see why Madrid have earmarked the striker as a top target to replace Karim Benzema, as he has proven season-after-season that there are few marksmen in the world as prolific.

The main obstacle standing in their way is Levy, and it's highly doubtful he'll be so willing to let Tottenham's poster boy depart, barring a truly irresistible offer.

Women's Ballon d'Or 2023: Nominees revealed for the Golden Ball with Spain World Cup star Aitana Bonmati the hot favourite

With two-time defending champion Alexia Putellas out of the running after a season decimated by injuries, a new winner will be crowned on October 30

The Women's Ballon d'Or remains a relatively new trophy on the world football scene, but lifting the Golden Ball is quickly becoming a dream for many of the world's best players. And after a memorable 12 months for the women's game, the shortlist of nominees for the 2023 award has been revealed.

The 2022-23 season was one dominated by Spanish football, as Barcelona won both their domestic title and the Champions League, before La Roja sealed the World Cup in thrilling fashion after a superb tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Despite that, two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas is out of the running for this year's award having missed most of the campaign with a knee injury, with her club and international team-mate, Aitana Bonmati, the current favourite to succeed Putellas in lifting the Golden Ball.

We will have to wait until the ceremony on Monday, October 30 to find out whether it is Bonmati or someone else who claims the prize, but for now, here are the players who have been shortlisted for football's ultimate individual honour:

Leeds United: Whites Hold Internal Talks Over "Top Coach"

Leeds United chiefs have internally discussed out-of-work manager Scott Parker as the Whites continue their search for Sam Allardyce's replacement.

Who could Leeds appoint as manager?

Following relegation from the Premier League, Leeds face an almighty task to find the perfect successor to Allardyce, who has left Elland Road by mutual consent.

It's been a season to forget for Leeds, who saw three different managers take the helm last campaign in Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Allardyce – but none could steer them away from the Championship.

Former Leeds boss Sam Allardyce.

FC Lorient boss Regis Le Bris and West Brom's Carlos Corberan, among others, are reportedly in contention to replace Allardyce at Leeds, though hiring either boss could be difficult given their currently employed status.

Free agent managers could be a solution and there are plenty around, with former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard being linked with a move to Yorkshire.

Reliable journalist Phil Hay, writing in a piece for The Athletic, claims Leeds have internally discussed hiring another manager on the market in Parker.

The 42-year-old, who has previously managed the likes of Fulham and Club Brugge, is indeed a candidate among the Leeds hierarchy.

“Scott Parker has been discussed on the basis he won promotion from the Championship twice before, with Fulham and Bournemouth," Hay wrote."Leicester City are another possible destination for him.”

Hay also explains that Leeds wanted to take their time and draw up a viable shortlist of candidates before formally approaching any manager.

“Last week, Leeds’ chief executive, Angus Kinnear, began assessing and approaching potential managerial candidates with a view to establishing whether they were interested and what their demands would be.“The club wanted to be in a position where a viable shortlist was in place for the moment a formal offer could be made.”

Who is Scott Parker?

The ex-West Ham and Tottenham midfielder, despite being unceremoniously sacked by Brugge most recently, has actually received glowing praise from elite managers like Pep Guardiola for some of his work.

Guardiola has previously called Parker an "innovative" manager when discussing England's most promising up-and-coming coaches.

Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon also holds the tactician in very high esteem, having sung his praises back in 2021 to talkSPORT:

"Everyone knows the relationship I have with Scott. He’s a top guy, top man and a top coach. He’s just an all-round great guy," explained Sessegnon."He obviously has a philosophy of play and sticks to it and all the players are buying into that. Recently, it hasn’t been so good for them in terms of results, but I think the performances and effort is still there."
