Everton Keeping Tabs On 26-Year-Old Newcastle Star

Everton are one of the teams that currently in the running to land Allan Saint-Maximin on a deal this summer, according to a report from 90Min.

How many goals has Allan Saint-Maximin scored for Newcastle?

The 26-year-old has been with Newcastle for the last four seasons and has regularly produced the goods in front of goal for the Toon. He burst onto the scene back in 2019/20 and became an immediate first-team player, featuring on 26 occasions for them in the Premier League and bagging three goals with four assists.

He matched those totals a campaign later too, despite having less minutes on the field. With the club making gradual improvement, he then featured 35 times – his highest amount since his move to St James' Park – and rewarded Newcastle for their faith by hitting a double-digit amount of goal contributions for the first time (five goals and five assists).

In 2022/23 though, he struggled to maintain his place in the team and as the Toon fought for European football, Saint-Maximin's tally tailed off as well. He started just 12 league games and produced only one goal for the club, although he still managed five assists.

However, it led to his worst ever total in a Newcastle shirt and he could now be on the chopping block given Eddie Howe's penchant for playing either Alexander Isak or Joelinton in that left-wing role at St. James' Park.

Are Everton signing Allan Saint-Maximin?

It's led to suggestions that he could now be sold off this summer, with the Frenchman having fallen down the pecking order. According to a report from 90Min, there is certainly interest in his services and one of the clubs that is in the race to sign him is Everton.

The Toffees have "checked on" the situation of the winger and could therefore make a move if they think it is feasible to do so this summer window. However, they aren't the only club that seemingly want to try and sign him.

Crystal Palace also have an interest in keeping him in the top flight, whilst AC Milan could offer to take him to Italy. Most recently too, there is now an offer from Saudi Arabia on the table – so the player may have some decision making to do when it comes to selecting whether to stay with Newcastle or to head to a new team this window.

Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin

He clearly has talent in his locker when he gets on form too, with football journalist Josh Bunting stating that Saint-Maximin is "intelligent" and is "so good" at finding "pockets of space" while scout Jacek Kulig calls his dribbling "unstoppable".

It shows that the Frenchman is a winger who is not only excellent in one on one situation but also has the composure to pick a pass at the end of it. If Everton did seal a deal for the 26-year-old then, it would be a real boost to their forward line next season and certainly get the crowd off their feet at Goodison Park.

A thrilling Women’s World Cup final at a sold out Lord’s was a match years in the making and can define the future of the game

Melinda Farrell at Lord's23-Jul-2017Where were you when England won the World Cup?Where were you on Sunday morning when the queues to get into the ground, half of them women and girls, stretched along Wellington Parade almost the entire way to St John’s Wood station? Were you in the excited, buzzing throng, ignoring the touts? Who could have imagined they would ever hear the slightly seedy muttering of “Buy or sell any tickets? Buy or sell any tickets?” on their way to a women’s match?Where was the late Baroness Rachael Heyhoe-Flint when the trophy, which many feel should bear her name, floated by balloon into the ground in the arms of a twirling and tumbling courier clad all in white, as if sent to earth from the heavens above? Even the most hardened atheist would wish for an afterlife if they knew Heyhoe-Flint could look down and see the Home of Cricket – a place where she fought so tenaciously for female recognition – jammed with jubilant mothers and fathers and sons and daughters, made over for a wholehearted celebration of the women’s game.Where was Charlotte Edwards when Tammy Beaumont creamed back to back boundaries off Shikha Pandey with the most delicious pair of cover drives? The 17-year-old experienced the highs and lows of representing his country for the first time as he scored and got injured inside the opening 20 minutes of France's 14-0 win over 10-man Gibraltar on Saturday in Nice.

The Paris Saint-Germain star became the nation's youngest goalscorer since 1914 when he swept in his side's third after 16 minutes. However, as he connected with the ball, Ethan Santos clattered into him. The teenager was unable to continue and Santos was sent off in the 18th minute. After the match, Deschamps delivered an injury update on the midfielder.

He said: "Tonight, it's a perfect evening, except for the injury to Warren Zaire-Emery. It's not very serious. According to the information I have, the examinations are reassuring. There is no fracture but a big sprain after a gesture of incredible violence."

PSG will hope Zaire-Emery's injury is not too serious as they face Monaco in Ligue 1 on Friday. The teenager has become an important player for the Paris outfit this season and his absence would be keenly felt in their midfield.

Incidentally, France's win was the biggest in European Championship qualification history, eclipsing Germany's previous record of 13-0 against San Marino in 2006.

RCB and Mitchell Starc part ways ahead of 2017 season

RCB will now go into the player auction in Bangalore with two slots for overseas players – they previously had only one – and an additional INR 5 crore in their purse

‘Starc’s absence means more demand for Tymal Mills’

Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mitchell Starc have parted ways ahead of the 2017 IPL season; the Australia fast bowler will not be part of the IPL player auction on February 20 either.Cricket Australia said Starc’s workload was too heavy for him to play in the IPL and that he would “undertake a period of rehabilitation and strength” ahead of the Champions Trophy in England in June.Starc said: “At this point in time after a long summer and with a big tour of India still ahead I think it is in my best interests, both physically and mentally, for me to have a break, spend time with my family and take the opportunity to work on getting back to full fitness.”RCB will now go into the player auction in Bangalore with two slots for overseas players – they previously had only one – and an additional INR 5 crore (US$ 746,000 approx.) in their purse, which was Starc’s price. RCB now have INR 17.825 crore (US$ 2,660,447 approx.) to spend at the auction.Starc was part of the RCB franchise since 2014 but played only two tournaments for them. He missed the entire 2016 season because he was recovering from a foot fracture. In 2014, he took 14 at 28.71 apiece, with an economy of 7.49, and in 2015 he claimed 20 wickets at 14.55 apiece with an economy of 6.76.RCB squad Virat Kohli (capt), Chris Gayle, 3 KL Rahul (wk), AB De Villiers, Shane Watson, Kedhar Jadhav, Stuart Binny, Yuzvendra Chahal, Iqbal Abdulla, S Aravind, Harshal Patel, Mandeep Singh, Adam Milne, Sarfaraz Khan, Samuel Badree, Travis Head, Sachin Baby, Avesh Khan, Tabraiz Shamsi

Wolves Could Form "Monster" Duo In Colossal £22k-p/w Swoop

Wolverhampton Wanderers ended the 2022/23 campaign with a relatively comfortable 13th-placed finish in the Premier League table.

Julen Lopetegui's side were never in any serious danger of being relegated down to the Championship as they finished seven points clear of the bottom three, with Leicester, Southampton, and Leeds United all dropping out of the division.

The Spanish head coach now has a full summer transfer window to improve his squad with a view to competing further up the table, and potentially challenging for Europe again in 23/24.

One player who could come in is Stuttgart ace Konstantinos Mavropanos, who is a reported transfer target for the Old Gold as they look to improve their defensive options.

Who is Konstantinos Mavropanos?

The 25-year-old Greek centre-back enjoyed an excellent campaign in the Bundesliga in 22/23 and could come in to form a terrific partnership with current Wolves star Max Kilman.

The English defender played 37 of the club's 38 Premier League matches in the season just gone and averaged a solid Sofascore rating of 6.85. He proved himself to be a solid option at the heart of the defence and dominated opposition attackers as he won 63% of his duels.

This means that Kilman is capable of bullying opponents and keeping them quiet for the majority of games when it comes to battling for the ball, which is particularly useful in physical games where there may be a barrage of set pieces and balls into the box.

Wolves centre-back Max Kilman.

Mavropanos could form a "monster" pairing with the Wolves ace as Borussia Monchengladbach chief Pellegrino Matarazzo previously described the Greek gem, whilst also hailing him as a "gladiator".

The colossal Stuttgart enforcer averaged an excellent Sofascore rating of 7.26 across 28 appearances in the Bundesliga, which would place him top of the Wolves squad for outfield players, and won an impressive 66% of his battles, including 70% of his aerial contests.

This suggests that the former Arsenal prospect, who also made four tackles and interceptions per match, is also a dominant defender who does not give much away when competing with opposition strikers.

Therefore, the £22k-per-week brute could be an exceptional addition to Lopetegui's side as his form in the German top-flight suggests that the potential is there for him to be an outstanding performer for the club, whilst his dominance at the back could make him and Kilman a formidable pairing for strikers to come up against next season.

India offspinner R Ashwin has claimed the top ICC awards for 2015-16, having been named the ICC Cricketer of the Year and the Test Cricketer of the Year. Ashwin is the third Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Cricketer of the Year.Ashwin, currently the top-ranked Test bowler, had picked up 48 wickets and scored 336 runs in eight Tests during the ICC’s voting period from September 2015 to 2016, in addition to 27 wickets in 19 T20Is. In 2016 alone, he picked up 72 wickets in 12 Tests and became the second-fastest bowler to 200 wickets during the Kanpur match against New Zealand.Ashwin said he was overwhelmed by the recognition. “It’s a bit overwhelming and it is yet to sink in completely. At the same time I was expecting to land one but to end up with two awards was extremely special,” he said. “To be bracketed alongside Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar is indeed a matter of great pride.”I want to dedicate this award to my family who have been a pillar of strength. And not to forget all my teammates and coach Anil Kumble who push me to give my best with their support and guidance.”The offspinner rated his 7 for 83 in the Antigua Test against West Indies as the performance he enjoyed the most. That haul helped India to an innings-and-92-run win, and he finished the series as the leading wicket-taker with 17 dismissals. Another performance Ashwin rated highly was his knock of 118 in the first innings in St Lucia, which helped rescue India from 126 for 5 to 353. They went on to win the match by 237 runs. It was also Ashwin’s fourth Test hundred.South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was named ODI Player of the Year. De Kock has been South Africa’s leading run-getter in ODIs since September last year, and tallied 793 runs in 16 ODIs during the voting period. Overall, since September 2015, he has scored 1175 runs in 22 matches in the format, with five centuries and three fifties, ahead of senior batsmen like Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla. One of de Kock’s most prolific phases came between October 2015 and February 2016, when he scored four centuries in six innings during the tour of India and the home series against England. He enjoyed the same form in the longest format, with five successive fifty-plus scores between August and November 2016. De Kock is the second South Africa player after AB de Villiers to win the award.West Indies allrounder Carlos Brathwaite’s match-defining 34 not out off 10 balls in the World T20 final against England earlier this year was named the T20 Performance of the Year. The first Bangladesh cricketer to win an annual ICC award, Mustafizur picked up eight ODI wickets and 19 T20I wickets in the voting period.Afghanistan’s flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad won the Associate and Affiliate Cricketer of the Year. He was the leading run-getter in the category, with 699 runs in 16 ODIs, 533 runs in 17 T20Is and 301 runs in the Intercontinental Cup matches.Earlier, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates had bagged the Women’s ODI and T20I Player-of-the-Year awards, while Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq was given the Spirit of Cricket award. Marais Erasmus won the David Shepherd Trophy for the Best Umpire.

Rangers Register Interest In Swoop For £6.9m Star

An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their attempts to add to their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window…

What's the latest on Anastasios Douvikas to Rangers?

According to Football Insider, the Light Blues have registered an interest in signing centre-forward Anastasios Douvikas from FC Utrecht in the coming weeks.

The report claims that the Gers are on the lookout for a replacement for Alfredo Morelos, who is set to depart on a free transfer this summer, and the Greek international has emerged as one of their targets.

It is stated that the Eredivisie outfit are demanding a fee in the region of £6.9m for the prolific marksman and it remains to be seen how much Michael Beale's side are willing to pay for him.

Who is Anastasios Douvikas?

The 23-year-old striker has caught the eye with his impressive performances in the Dutch top-flight this season and he could form an exciting partnership with Kieran Dowell at Ibrox.

Norwich stars Kieran Dowell and Josh Sargent.

In the Eredivisie this term, Douvikas – who was hailed as "sharp" by journalist Josh Bunting – has averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.01 and has plundered 19 goals in 24 starts, which shows that the dynamo has the quality to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

No Rangers player managed more than 16 goals in the Scottish Premiership in 2022/23 and this indicates that the Utrecht forward has the potential to come in as Beale's go-to man for goals next season.

The signing of Dowell on a free transfer from Norwich City could allow the Greek international to thrive even more as the Englishman is a creative midfield maestro that could provide the striker with the chances he needs to be a success in Scotland.

Over the last 365 days, the ex-Everton man ranks in the top 25% of players in his position in the Men's Next Eight Competitions for assists per 90 (0.24) and has racked up 0.20 xAG per 90.

In the 2020/21 Championship campaign, the magician created 0.31 xAG and made 5.12 shot-creating actions per 90 and this placed him in the top 3% of players in his position in that division, which shows that the wizard excels at opening up opposition defences for his teammates.

These statistics show that the 25-year-old has the playmaking quality to be a consistent provider for Douvikas in the final third, which could allow the Greek ace to flourish in front of goal.

The Utrecht star could also return the favour as the 23-year-old has created seven 'big chances' for his teammates in the Eredivisie and Dowell, who scored 12 goals in 72 games for Norwich, could profit from that by getting on the scoresheet for himself.

Therefore, they could form an exciting partnership at the top end of the pitch for Beale next season and the head coach should be hoping that the club are able to secure a deal for Douvikas in the coming weeks.

Laxman had sold his Tenvic shares – BCCI

The BCCI has clarified that VVS Laxman had eliminated a conflict of interest before three-member cricket advisory committee got down to interviewing candidates for the position of India head coach

The BCCI has clarified that VVS Laxman had eliminated a conflict of interest before a three-member cricket advisory committee got down to interviewing candidates for the position of India head coach. The BCCI eventually appointed Anil Kumble, in whose company, Tenvic, Laxman held shares. The clarification came in response to a report that said Laxman was the second-largest shareholder in Tenvic Sports Education Private Limited. The report also stated that Laxman held 33,332 shares in the company, and that he was entitled to a substantial amount of money in the form of incentives, bonus and other benefits.”Mr Laxman informed BCCI that he had sold his total shareholding of 5% in Tenvic Sport in the month of March 2016 and also declared that he no longer held any shareholding or any official or unofficial position in Tenvic Sports,” BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said in a release. “This took place prior to the commencement of the operations of this Committee. Mr Laxman was therefore in no position of a conflict of interest at the time of selection of the head coach of Indian cricket team. All assumptions and conclusions to that effect are therefore erroneous.”Reports around Laxman’s possible conflict were the latest in what has been a controversial selection of the coach. Sourav Ganguly, part of the advisory committee, and Ravi Shastri, one of the candidates, have had digs at each other. Shastri said it was disrespectful that Ganguly was not present when he was interviewed. Ganguly responded by explaining the circumstances behind his absence, and clarified it was not his decision but that of the committee as a whole. He also said “there are other people involved also” in the decision-making.Also Kumble’s involvement in Tenvic, a company “in the business of sports and consulting”, had raised concerns around a possible conflict of interest in the past. Kumble has always denied Tenvic, which has cricketers as clients, is a talent management company.Minutes after he was announced as India’s next coach, though, he tackled the conflict-of-interest question. “We [BCCI and I] have already discussed that,” Kumble said last week. “Whatever needs to be done will be done before I take up this role officially. That has been discussed, and it has been clear with the BCCI as well. Something that can be easily resolved.”

Arsenal Planning Contract Talks With £83k-p/w Star

Arsenal are planning to "step up" contract talks with Aaron Ramsdale as we approach the back end of the Premier League season, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Which Arsenal players will be offered new contracts?

With the Gunners currently sitting top of the Premier League table, six points clear of Manchester City, it is no real wonder Mikel Arteta wants to tie down a number of first team players to new contracts, having already agreed terms with Gabriel Martinelli.

Bukayo Saka is in line for a new deal, with it being reported at one point that a verbal agreement had been reached, while captain Martin Odegaard is set to be offered a new long-term contract, in a deal that would run until 2030.

Arteta is also keen on extending defender William Saliba's stay at the Emirates Stadium, although he has already turned down an extension, as the offer was significantly less than what he had been hoping for.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Jones confirmed that Arsenal are set to enter discussions with Ramsdale soon, although it is not yet considered a pressing matter.

The journalist said: "I think Ramsdale is going to be an important one as we start to get out of this season, as that will be a situation they start to look at. There's no urgency around Ramsdale right now.

"He's still got two years left after this season. That’s because of how well things have gone with him, as he's been a great fit for not just the playing style, but as a personality as well.

"Ramsdale's extension is going to be something we hear more and more about at the back end of this season in terms of Arsenal trying to step up talks to get him tied down to a new deal.”

Does Aaron Ramsdale deserve a new contract?

There is no doubt that the 24-year-old has earned a new deal, as the goalkeeper, who currently earns £83k-per-week, has been fantastic for Arsenal so far this season, keeping 12 league clean sheets, the third-highest amount in the top flight.

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale reacts

Members of the media praised the shot-stopper for another fantastic performance in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday, hailing him as "absolutely sensational", while also giving him credit for some important saves in the latter stages of the match.

Ramsdale is already contracted until 2025, with an option for an extra year, meaning Arsenal are at no risk of losing him any time soon, but fresh terms should still be offered at the earliest opportunity, to ensure his long-term future is at the Emirates Stadium.

Celtic fans slam Carl Starfelt for penalty error

A number of Celtic fans online have been left infuriated by defender Carl Starfelt after he gave away a foolish penalty during the club’s most recent game.

What’s the latest on Carl Starfelt and Celtic?

The Bhoys took on Hibernian at home on Saturday afternoon, coming into the fixture nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with only 10 games remaining.

It was never going to be an easy day out for Hibs, but they got off to a terrible start when Elie Youan picked up two yellow cards by the 24th minute, meaning his side would have to play the bulk of the game at Parkhead a player down.

However, despite this obvious advantage, Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side ended up conceding before half-time to go in at the break 1-0 behind.

Indeed, VAR noticed defender Starfelt pulling Paul Hanlon’s shirt inside the box, and after checking the monitor, referee Steven McLean decided to point to the spot.

Consequently, Hibs took the lead as Josh Campbell stepped up from 12 yards and sent goalkeeper Joe Hart the wrong way.

Evidently baffled by Starfelt’s miscalculation, a collection of Celtic fans couldn’t help but vent their anger online. Here are some of the strongest comments on Twitter…
