Nicholas Pooran has stepped down as white-ball captain of West Indies following the team’s first-round exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup, Cricket West Indies has confirmed.Pooran had taken over the captaincy from Kieron Pollard in May earlier this year. Under his captaincy since he took over full-time, West Indies won just four out of 15 ODIs and four out of 15 T20Is. In the T20 World Cup, West Indies, who came into the tournament as two-time champions, were stunned by Scotland in the opener and then went on to lose against Ireland, finishing the tournament with just one win – against Zimbabwe – and crashing out in the first round.”I have given the captaincy a great deal of thought since the enormous disappointment of the T20 World Cup,” Pooran said. “I took on the role with great pride and dedication and have given it absolutely everything over the past year. The T20 World Cup is something that must not define us and I will readily get involved in the upcoming reviews. Despite an injury-riddled time at Molineux, Portuguese winger Neto was superb for the Old Gold. He signed for the club from Italian side Lazio, for a reported fee of £14.1m in August 2019.

It is fair to say that the tricky winger’s time at the club was a success. He played 135 times for the club, scoring 14 goals and grabbing 24 assists in that time.
His best campaign was in 2023/24, where the Portugal international scored twice and grabbed nine assists in just 20 games.
Sadly, injuries did play a part throughout his time in the Midlands. He had a total of seven injuries across his four years at the club, leading him to miss several lengthy periods of time. That included 297 days and 52 games for club and country with a knee injury.
However, the winger bounced back well from his fitness issues, and his form earned him a £54m move to Stamford Bridge to join Chelsea. He has played 15 times for the Blues so far, scoring three and assisting three in that time.
Neto was certainly a major sale for the Old Gold and is no doubt a player they miss this season. Worryingly, there could be someone else who follows in his footsteps and leaves the club for a large fee.
Wolves’ next big sale
The player in question here is Rayan Ait-Nouri. The 23-year-old wing-back has been superb in a largely poor season for the Old Gold so far, continuing his impressive form from the past few seasons. He cost the club £9.5m from French side Angers in 2021, after spending the previous campaign on loan from the club.

He has been sensational for O’Neil’s side in 2024/25. The Algerian international, who was described as “underrated” by football analyst Ben Mattinson, has played 12 times in the Premier League, scoring three goals and grabbing two assists. That included a goal and assist against Brentford in a losing cause, a game that ended 5-3 to the Bees.
There can be statistical comparisons made between the Wolves defender and some of the most enterprising attacking left-backs in world football. One of those is AC Milan and French defender Theo Hernandez, who has two goals and two assists in ten Serie A games this term.
The pair are both the types of full-backs who often act like wingers, and with their creative flair it might not be surprising to see their passing stats are so similar, as noted on FBref.
This term, Ait-Nouri averages 1.08 key passes and 3.24 progressive passes per game, with the Milan star slightly more, playing 1.62 key passes and 4.73 progressive passes. The Old Gold defender has even more impressive stats when you consider he is playing for a relegation-threatened team.

Defensively, the two left-backs are neck and neck again. The Wolves number three averages 3.24 tackles and interceptions and 4.61 ball recoveries. In comparison, Milan’s French full-back averages 2.43 tackles and interceptions and 4.86 ball recoveries.
It is certainly possible that Ait-Nouri could be the next big Wolves sale. Given he is statistically similar to Hernandez, his valuation could follow the same trend. The Frenchman is worth £50m as per Transfermarkt, and GiveMeSport have previously suggested Wolves would want £60m for their Algerian star.

Losing their number three would be a blow for O’Neil’s side after so many of their other stars have departed over the past two years, and they will no doubt be doing everything they can to hold onto him.

Pakistan are facing the prospect of another significant length of time without Shaheen Shah Afridi after he hurt* his right knee again in the men’s T20 World Cup final on Sunday in Melbourne.He has been advised two weeks of rehabilitation after a scan on Monday morning confirmed there were no signs of an injury and the knee discomfort was likely “due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing”. Afridi was, in any case, expected to sit out the England Test series, which starts from December 1 in Rawalpindi. His right knee is currently believed to be in a brace. Afridi will fly back home via Dubai with the rest of the Pakistan squad today. Haris Rauf is understood to be in line for a shot at red-ball cricket for the first time as Afridi’s replacement.The PCB’s handling of Afridi’s rehab from the original injury had come under scrutiny and criticism at the time. After he got injured he travelled with the team to the Netherlands for a three-match ODI series in August, in the hope that he would recover while on tour. That didn’t pan out as expected and the PCB eventually announced that he would be out for four to six weeks.Afridi continued to travel with the team to the UAE for the Asia Cup, as another attempt was made to get his rehab going. But medical scans and reports confirmed a posterior cruciate ligament injury and it was eventually decided that he would travel to the UK for further rehab and work with doctors on the PCB medical panel, Zafar Iqbal and Imtiaz Ahmed. Why Bruno will be crucial under Amorim for Man Utd
Midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been the shining light in a disappointing United side for months on end in recent times, often being the man to single-handedly dig the side out of trouble in desperate moments.
He joined the Red Devils in a £68m deal back in January 2020, missing out on playing under Amorim at Sporting by just a couple of months after his appointment in March of the same year.
The 30-year-old has been worth every penny since his big-money transfer, consistently producing the goods in attacking areas throughout his near five years in Manchester.
Since his arrival, Fernandes, who’s now United’s club captain, has registered 83 goals and 73 assists in his 250 appearances – an average of a goal contribution in every 1.6 games he appears in.
Undoubtedly, he will remain a key player under his compatriot, holding all the keys to any potential success in the years ahead for the Red Devils – possibly featuring in numerous different roles.
He could feature as a box-to-box number eight, or even as a wide attacking midfielder behind the striker, but it’s likely he will star in the former, having the ability to dictate the play more in such a role.
The recent form of one other player could force him into that role, with Amorim desperately needing to utilise one player who was often starved of game time under the previous management of Ten Hag.

Winger Amad Diallo arrived in a shock £36m deal from Italian side Atalanta back in January 2021 after featuring just five times as a professional for the Serie A outfit.
However, the United hierarchy obviously saw huge amounts of talent in the Ivorian to bring him to Manchester – often having to bide his time under Ten Hag.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar loan spell at Sunderland in 2022/23, scoring 14 times in 42 appearances – but it was only enough for a bit part role in the first-team last season.
Amad only made nine league appearances in 2023/24 – totalling just 388 minutes – with Ten Hag often opting for big-money flop Antony rather than handing minutes to the talented youngster. It was a decision that MEN’s Samuel Luckhurst claimed should have left the Ivorian “insulted” with his treatment.
However, this season, he’s already showcased he has all the tools to be a real threat under Amorim, registering three goals and two assists – surpassing his tally from any of his previous campaigns at the club.

Within the last week alone, he’s registered two goals and an assist, with his double firing the Red Devils to a 2-0 victory over PAOK in the Europa League.
Given United’s lack of success in the final third in recent months, Diallo’s form has certainly pushed him further up the pecking order and demonstrated that he could prevent any further big-money investment by being a useful asset to Amorim.
At 22, he’s now at the perfect age to demonstrate why the hierarchy splashed such a hefty fee on him at such a tender age, with his early form in 2024/25 making him an extremely useful asset to the new boss.

In a rare act, West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane ordered his team-mate Yashasvi Jaiswal to leave the field for disciplinary reasons on the fifth day of the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone.Jaiswal smashed a double-century in the second innings to set up a big win for West Zone. However, on the field, he found himself at the centre of controversy. He was asked by his captain Rahane to leave the field for going overboard with sledging against South Zone batter Ravi Teja.Teja had apparently complained about the verbal volleys that Jaiswal was consistently firing at him as he was fielding close to the batter.After being spoken to earlier, Jaiswal came under fire again in the 57th over when the on-field umpire complained about the young batter’s alleged sledging. Jaiswal appeared to be animated when Rahane had a word with him and was eventually sent off. Satyajeet Bachhav came out as a substitute for him.*Jaiswal returned to the field after being away for seven overs. He was later declared Player of the Match after West Zone won by 294 runs.Asked about the incident involving Jaiswal, Rahane said after the match: “I believe in always respecting your opponents, umpires and match officials.
